Modern Day Gangster

The modern day gangster can be described as on the rise with "more wealth and power" and "presuming to status and respectability as well" stated by Thomas Pauly. Very often, the illustration or the idea of gangsters are portrayed in the public's eyes as the marginal, ghetto portion of the population. Saggy pants, bad manners, and poverty part of towns fill the imagery. However, that is very not much the case. Gangsters are actually very wealthy and very smart. They do not roam the streets in dirty clothes and mean eyes, but in suits, tuxedos, and dashing smiles. It is very peculiar how these criminals are able to not only blend in with society, but climb up the social ladder to be the top 1% of the population. Acknowledging this strategic debut into society, one must ask, how did they keep their composure? Was it an identity, an elitist personality if you will, that they have always wanted to achieve? Or is their actions and behaviors all an act in order to secretly mock the wealthy, by easily tricking them that they are one of them? Is it a satirical display they promote, when they dress and act like one of the rich populations?
Also, what does that say about the upper class community as a whole? If they are friends with a particular modern day gangster, and they choose to either participate or simply accept and ignore in a crime, how does that show what money can reflect in identity. Does money really empower a certain superior complex that allows one to think they are above the law? Many people assert that money actually can buy everything.
Examining the use of dandy-ism present throughout rich people and modern day gangsters, it is clear that a certain look or identity will act in one's favor in societal acceptance and therefore, upcoming success. The notion that acceptance, favoring, and liking is placed upon those who look better than others send a clear message. Society/population holds a preconceived classicism bias that helps build the division of socio-economic classes. The present day gangster has realized this, resorted to the riches of disguise, and thrived in secrecy.
